Brighton Legal Walk raises £5,200 for advice agencies

The annual Brighton Legal Walk took place last week on 11th September and raised much needed funds for local advice services in Brighton. These include Citizen’s Advice, Money Advice Plus, Possibility People and the Brighton Advice Centre run by BHT Sussex. With many people continually affected by the Cost-of-Living Crisis and rising housing costs, these services are currently in huge demand.

The Brighton Legal Walk is organised by London Legal Support Trust which supports law centres and legal advice agencies in London and the Southeast. Brighton Advice Centre staff from BHT Sussex walked their 10km in solidarity with other local lawyers, advisers and supporters to raise funds as well as awareness at a time when their services are needed more than ever. Thank you to the hundreds of people – and dogs – who showed up to complete the walk.

The Brighton Advice Centre run by BHT Sussex provides specialist housing and money management advice, an immigration legal service, and an In Court Duty Scheme which provides last-minute emergency advice for people facing eviction from their homes. Last year alone, the Centre prevented 328 households from becoming homeless. Our Immigration Legal Service is the only legal aid representation and advice provider in Sussex for refugees and asylum seekers.

Sue Hennell, Senior Advice Manager for BHT Sussex, said:

We are so grateful to everyone who supports these walks every year, as they raise much needed funds for our Brighton Advice Centre and others providing essential advice to vulnerable local people.”

In these challenging times, services like ours are in demand and under pressure, and fundraising events like this are really important in helping us to continue our work to ensure that people can stay in their homes, be supported and have access to justice regardless of their circumstances.”

The next Legal Walk BHT Sussex will be taking part in is the Hastings Legal Walk which takes place on Wednesday 25th September. Please get in contact if you would like to take part in the walk or sponsor us at the link below.
