We have launched our 2019 Christmas appeal with a video highlighting the everyday struggles faced by homeless people in our city, and the support they can get from First Base day centre. The video has been kindly donated by Big Egg films.
All the money raised will go to First Base, Brighton’s largest resource centre for people who are street homeless. It is open all over the festive season and throughout the year, welcoming people with hot food, warm showers and clean clothes. Most importantly, it provides advice and support to enable people to move off the streets and into a place they can call home.
We aim to fundraise £40,000 this Christmas in order to provide First Base’s services to those who need it this winter and throughout the coming year. Last year more than one thousand people used these services and they are needed now more than ever.
Andy Winter, BHT’s chief executive, said:
With your support, we can give the gift of a better future to homeless people in our city. A donation of ÂŁ30 will pay for a personal care package for a homeless person this Christmas, providing them with hot meals including a delicious Christmas dinner, a chance to freshen up and get clean clothes, and the opportunity to benefit from health checks and expert advice.
I want to extend heartfelt thanks to Adam Sheldon and his colleagues from Big Egg Films for our 2019 Christmas Appeal video. For the third year running they have donated their expertise and time to produce an incredible film which will help us raise much needed funds.
Adam Sheldon of Big Egg Films said:
It’s so hard to walk past and see anyone having to bed down in these bitterly cold, often wet conditions in Brighton and Hove, it feels completely inhumane. Big Egg supports BHT and will continue to do so, as we see how their work helps people to deal with the problems at the root of their homelessness, and ultimately get them off the streets and into accommodation
