Local companies provide furniture and food parcels to vulnerable clients

Generous local companies including Brewers Home and The Ivy, Bill’s and Higgedy Pies have come together with volunteers from St Peter’s Church in Brighton to provide food parcels and furniture for clients of Route One, a mental health service run by BHT. Brewers Home donated approximately £20,000 worth of brand-new furniture to clients living in Route One’s supported accommodation for people with complex mental health needs. Clients received armchairs for their rooms, and communal areas were improved with items like sofas, sideboards and dining sets. Local IT companies connect homeless choir members

IT Services and Solutions company CANCOM, and cross-sector partnership Digital Brighton and Hove have donated internet dongles, SIM cards and tablets to The Choir with No Name Brighton, which runs choirs for people who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation. This has enabled some of its most isolated members to connect to a virtual choir community set up during the Covid-19 pandemic. Sun cream and other donations needed at First Base

BHT is appealing for donations of sun cream, baseball caps and sunglasses for our day centre First Base, to help protect our clients in the summer sun. First Base helps homeless people in Brighton and Hove by providing food, showers, clean and dry clothes, and support to get off the streets. First Base is still open and supporting people in our city, although not currently working as an open-door day centre due to Covid-19 restrictions. Celebrating BHT’s Immigration Legal Service this Refugee Week

This Refugee Week BHT wants to acknowledge and celebrate the life-saving work being done by our Immigration Legal Service (ILS), which has helped hundreds of refugees and asylum seekers with legal support. It provides free legal advice and representation delivered by specialist solicitors and caseworkers under the Legal Aid Scheme. BHT is the only legal aid representation and advice provider in Sussex for refugees and asylum seekers, and as such our services are highly in demand. Articles cover a variety of topics, including coping with lockdown and ideas to connect with your neighbours. Community Champion Awards go to BHT care home volunteers!

This Mental Health Awareness Week, BHT is celebrating Sheila Nuttall and Peter Taylor, who volunteer at our mental health care homes in Hove and who have won Covid-19 Community Champion Awards in recognition of the work they are doing to support the vulnerable. BHT’s supporters get creative and raise more than £3000!

BHT’s supporters joined people from across the UK to take part in the ‘2.6 challenge’, a campaign to help charities that have lost funds due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Virtual Choir launched for homeless people in Brighton

The Choir with No Name Brighton has launched a ‘virtual choir’ online, as part of efforts to make sure its members can stay connected during the coronavirus pandemic. We’re helping our tenants and clients celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day with special activity packs. We’re offering these packs to our tenants and clients to help them celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day in lockdown. The anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on 8th May was set to be a significant occasion with the May bank holiday moved and largescale events planned to commemorate the landmark.
