BHT’s latest annual review is available now. This year’s review has a focus on Reaching the Most Marginalised, and celebrates the work we do with people who are hard to reach, and sometimes ‘forgotten’ by other services. BHT launches 2019 Christmas appeal for First Base day centre

We have launched our 2019 Christmas appeal with a video highlighting the everyday struggles faced by homeless people in our city, and the support they can get from First Base day centre. The video has been kindly donated by Big Egg films. All the money raised will go to First Base, Brighton’s largest resource centre for people who are street homeless. It is open all over the festive season and throughout the year, welcoming people with hot food, warm showers and clean clothes. Fulfilling Lives launch their Manifesto for Change

Fulfilling Lives South East have launched a new report, Manifesto for Change: Changing systems for people facing multiple disadvantage. It outlines the 6 key themes that have arisen from their work so far, and sets out their commitments under each theme going forward. The Fulfilling Lives South East Project started in 2014 and is funded until July 2022 by the National Lottery Community Fund. It is led by Brighton Housing Trust (BHT), with the support of delivery partners Equinox and Oasis Project, and is one of twelve inter-linked projects running across England. Collaborative project aims to improve services for homeless women with experience of domestic abuse

Fulfilling Lives have gained valuable insight into new ways of providing specialist domestic abuse support for women with multiple and complex needs, through a collaborative pilot project with RISE and BHT’s Phase One. RISE is a Brighton based service for people affected by domestic abuse and Phase One is a high support hostel for homeless people in the city. The pilot project centred around supporting non-specialist frontline workers with a bespoke training package and co-locating a RISE assertive outreach worker for one day a week at Phase One hostel. Homeless Choirs release ‘This is Me’ single on World Homeless Day

The Choir With No Name Brighton is one of four homeless choirs across England who have come together to record the single ‘This is Me’ for World Homeless Day on 10 October. The Brighton based choir, which is run in partnership between BHT and the national Choir with No Name charity, will perform at multiple locations across the city on the day to promote the single release. BHT’s Immigration Legal Service receives donation from LOSRAS

BHT has received £500 from Lewes Organisation in Support of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (LOSRAS), for our Immigration Legal Service. This service provides free legal advice and representation delivered by specialist solicitors and caseworkers under the Legal Aid Scheme. The donation was given in response to BHT’s 50th birthday appeal. BHT’s Immigration Legal Service has helped hundreds of refugees and asylum seekers with legal support. The majority of those they work with are ‘unaccompanied minors’; young people and children arriving in the UK who have often endured unimaginable suffering, and who have no adults to look after their welfare. Quadrophenia anniversary event raises funds for BHT

On Sunday 25 August ‘Quad 40’, an event that celebrated the 40th anniversary of the cult classic film Quadrophenia, took place at Brighton Palace Pier. Partygoers raised an incredible £2,116 for BHT through a raffle and auction that formed part of the celebrations. Organiser Gary Shail, who played Spider in the film, pulled together the ultimate ‘Quadrophenia Experience’ with live music, a meet and greet session with the cast and crew and a screening of the film both inside and outside the Pier. Help BHT staff fundraise for advice providers in Brighton and Hastings!

BHT staff will be joining the annual Hastings and Brighton Legal Walks taking place on 9 and 10 September to raise crucial funds for local advice agencies. You can support them here. Funds raised will go to BHT’s Brighton and Hastings Advice Centres, as well as other local agencies Citizens Advice 1066, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre, Citizen’s Advice, Money Advice Plus and Possability People.
