Be Active
Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety across all age groups.
Exercise is essential for slowing age-related cognitive decline and for promoting well-being.
But it doesn’t need to be particularly intense for you to feel good - slower-paced activities, such as walking, can have the benefit of encouraging social interactions as well providing some level of exercise.
Today, why not get physical? Here are a few ideas:
- Follow one of the many exercise videos on YouTube
- Have a kick-about in a local park
- If you're on the coast then take a walk by the sea front
- Do some ‘easy exercise’, like stretching, you can do this with surprisingly little space
It can be hard to be active. To find the time, energy and motivation to lead an active life. But it’s hard to dismiss the positive impact a bit of exercise can have on our mood.
Personally I try to be active every day. It doesn’t have to be something big, even a short walk to the shops can make a difference. Next time you’re thinking about taking your car somewhere, why not consider having a walk instead.
It's especially important to stay active while in lock down, it's far to easy to let the days slip by without doing any exercise. But I notice I feel much better when I do.
