BHT has received £500 from Lewes Organisation in Support of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (LOSRAS), for our Immigration Legal Service. This service provides free legal advice and representation delivered by specialist solicitors and caseworkers under the Legal Aid Scheme. The donation was given in response to BHT’s 50th birthday appeal.
BHT’s Immigration Legal Service has helped hundreds of refugees and asylum seekers with legal support. The majority of those they work with are ‘unaccompanied minors’; young people and children arriving in the UK who have often endured unimaginable suffering, and who have no adults to look after their welfare. The youngest person the service has worked with was just 8 years old.

For many years, we have valued the work that BHT does supporting asylum seekers and refugees in our community. Their work has made a significant difference to the lives of many, especially to unaccompanied children. We can’t sing their praises highly enough and are delighted to be able to make a contribution to such vital work.

We are so grateful for the support of Lewes Organisation in Support of Refugees and Asylum Seekers. It will help us continue to assist some of the most vulnerable people in our community, at a time when funding for this kind of work is under threat.
BHT is the only legal aid representation and advice provider in Brighton and Hove for refugees and asylum seekers, and as such their services are highly in demand. Last year they achieved positive outcomes for 84% of the clients whose cases they took on. Donations like this support the service to offer access to justice to more of those who need it most.
