BHT’s flagship annual event, the Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge took place last Sunday, raising over ten thousand pounds for BHT’s First Base Day Centre for rough sleepers, as well as significant funds for other local causes.
Hundreds of people took part in the event, which was organised by BHT and CSS Events, and comprised of a family-friendly challenge around Preston Park Velodrome track and a 60- or 30-mile route across the South Downs.
Participants crossing the finishing line were given a warm welcome and were greeted by The Choir With No Name, a local choir working in partnership with BHT for people who are homeless or who have experienced homelessness. Also joining the choir were The Penny Farthing Club, Brighton & Hove buses and Evans Cycles, who provided free bike mechanical support for participants and spectators.
Lauren Ellis, Fundraising Manager at BHT said:
It was fantastic to see so many local people getting on their bikes and taking on this unique challenge. There was a really positive atmosphere at the Velodrome and it was lovely to see so many families and children taking to the track! The fundraising for BHT will go towards First Base Day Centre, helping rough sleepers in our city to get off the streets and into a place they can call home.
The event was sponsored by KSD Group, a building maintenance and facilities management company based in Brighton, and McLaren Property, a property developer and construction group with several previous and ongoing mixed-use projects in Brighton.
