Piano recital raises over £1000 for First Base

A local student from Brighton College, Nelly Zhang, recently performed a piano recital to raise money for First Base Day Centre, which assists people who are sleeping rough in Brighton and Hove. The recital was held at Brighton Unitarian Church and a packed audience attended to support Nelly and her fundraiser.

The performance from Nelly was incredible – she performed several pieces of classical piano music from memory. The BHT Sussex staff in attendance were impressed by Nelly’s talent and commitment to her piano skills.

Guy Hayes, Operational Manager of First Base, spoke at the event to highlight the work that First Base do for people experiencing homelessness in the local community. He also encouraged donations from the audience who dug deep and collectively raised over £1000. This money will help us cover the daily running costs of First Base which includes the cost of food, heating, electricity and case workers.

We are looking forward to working with students at Brighton College again and are grateful for the support of Nelly and her piano teacher.
