This year we have again received support from our brilliant community fundraisers who have undertaken challenges to fundraise behalf of BHT Sussex. We are always amazed and impressed by the lengths our supporters go to to raise money for our services.
Ellie pulled on her running shoes in February to run the Brighton Half Marathon and surpassed her target of raising £500. In her fundraising page Ellie stated “It’s a truth we can’t escape – mental health, addiction, or unemployment touches us all, whether through personal struggles or witnessing the challenges faced by our loved ones.”
Josh was similarly inspired by our work to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the tallest mountain in Scotland, England & Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in under 24 hours. His efforts raised over £2200.
Josh was motivated to take on the challenge to raise money for First Base as he lives on the same street as the day centre and “witnesses their support daily. BHT Sussex is an amazing charity that helps those who are sleeping rough or homeless”.
Tara raised £820 in May by taking on the foot-aching 100km from London to Brighton Ultra. This gruelling test of endurance starts in Richmond-Upon-Thames and then travels over the North Downs through the stunning Surrey & Sussex countryside and on to the South Downs before the welcome sight of the Brighton coastline comes in to view.
Clea took to the skies this September and jumped out of a plane at 10,000 feet to skydive her way to raising an amazing £1500. That’s one ticked off the bucket list!
In November, Sea Lanes once again dipped its toe in fundraising for us, by hosting a 5km Autumn Swim Challenge in aid of BHT Sussex and Sea Sure. Participants swam an impressive 5km in 50 x 100m intervals in the amazing Sea Lanes facility – a 50 metre pool on Brighton seafront with a beautiful sea view.
Collectively, our fundraisers walked, ran and swam over 2,000km this year. We prevented over 2,000 cases of homelessness across our services in the year to March 2024.
If you have been inspired by any of our fundraisers, why not take on a challenge yourself and fundraise for BHT Sussex in 2025? We have lots of ideas listed on our website which you can read here. Let us know you’re fundraising by emailing fundraising@bht.org.uk.
