About the Work Placement Programme
This programme provides short workplace opportunities, supporting people who are in homeless supported accommodation to gain practical workplace experience to help access employment.
It is part of our Accommodation for Work Project, which is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, and which has been supporting people to prepare for work for over a decade.
It offers the following:
- Pre-placement preparation/training
- A supported voluntary work placement lasting 1-4 weeks
- Follow-up support to plan next steps
Eligibility Criteria and benefits of the programme
To access the programme, you need to:
- Live in homeless supported accommodation in Brighton and Hove
- Have an identified support worker
- Be interested in taking steps towards gaining employment
There are many benefits of participating in the programme; these include gaining greater clarity around what you want from work, identifying your skills and training needs, and increasing your confidence to apply for and participate in work.

Hosting a work placement
Hosting a short work placement is a great way of supporting people in their journey into employment, and can benefit your business too. Our participants are motivated and capable, and we support both participants and hosts throughout the placement. We can work in a very flexible way and are keen to learn from businesses what would work best for them.
The number of daysand hours per week would be agreed to suit the needs of the business. Whilst acknowledging that having someone on a placement takes time and energy, there can be many benefits, including:
- identification of talent reducing cost, time and risks involved in future recruitment
- enhancement of reputation which could attract more customers and staff
- an opportunity for staff to develop management skills through mentoring the participant.
If your business would consider hosting a short work placement, we would be delighted to speak with you. Please contact our Workplace Coordinator, Judith Bradshaw, using the contact details below.
