Alex and Jo’s Wedding Page

Alex and Jo have decided to support BHT Sussex to provide much needed support and assistance for vulnerable homeless people across Sussex.

Alex & Jo are not asking for any wedding gifts but would love for all of their guests who can afford it to make a donation to this fantastic cause, which is needed more than ever due to the cost-of-living crisis. Alex’s mother worked for BHT Sussex for 20+ years and Alex regularly volunteered at First Base, their day centre for people who are homeless.

BHT Sussex is a registered charity delivering interlinked services that empower people to overcome homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental ill health. They provide homes, specialist support services and legal advice on housing, immigration and welfare benefits-related issues. Their services operate in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex.

It is a shocking fact that the average age of death for people experiencing homelessness is just 45 for men and 43 for women. This compares to the national average age of death in the UK of 79 for men and 83 for women. This is why the work of BHT Sussex, and particularly First Base and the support it gives to people sleeping rough, is so vital.

Here are some examples of the difference your donation will make to First Base Day Centre:

  • £10  provides toiletries for 30 clients to shower daily for a week
  • £20 provides a food parcel for someone moving from the streets into accommodation
  • £50 helps towards the cost of heat, light, and water to provide a food, showers, laundry, and a safe environment
  • £100 could pay for vocational training courses to help people who are homeless find employment

Many thanks.

P.S. If you make a donation BHT Sussex will pass your details onto Alex and Jo so that they can thank you. They will not pass your details on to any third parties or conact you without your permission.
