We are pleased to say that BHT Sussex’s Intern Programme is relaunching after an eight month absence. The programme has a newly appointed intern co-ordinator, Matilda Van Orden, who has been getting it back up and running.
The Intern Programme is an employability training programme that has been running since 2012. It includes a six-month work placement that provides individuals with the training, skills and experience that increases an intern’s employability.
The programme is highly reputable amongst services in Brighton and is an amazing way to guide individuals with barriers to employment, such as homelessness, back into working life. Experiencing both homelessness and unemployment can cause a lack of confidence and purpose in someone’s life. By going through the programme and entering or returning to the world of work, this purpose and confidence is developed, as individuals are offered a place to explore their passions, skills and creativity whilst building up workplace experience.
Every intern who goes through the programme is supported by a dedicated mentor, as well as the Intern Co-ordinator, ensuring they get the most out of their placement.
Previous interns who have gone through the programme had this to say:
I’ve really enjoyed my placement. The help and support has been wonderful. My CV looks
great now and I’ve learnt so much.”“This was exactly what I was looking for – my placement has been fantastic.”
Previous workplace providers said:
Our Intern was enthusiastic and brought a lot of energy and ideas to the role. The whole experience was of great benefit to our clients and staff.”
“We’ve been very impressed with our Intern. Full credit to the programme for preparing them so well for the role.”
