Last week saw the long-awaited return of our ‘Getting Ready for Work’ event, which more than one hundred people attended. It took place at the Friends Meeting House in Brighton and was organised by our Accommodation for Work project, with a guest appearance from the Choir with No Name!
The event brings together clients and keyworkers of homeless services with work and learning providers in the city, it has been successfully running for many years but had to be paused during the pandemic.
The Accommodation for Work project aims to help homeless people off the streets and into employment, and offers temporary shared accommodation and support with work and learning. It is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Bernadette Lynch, Accommodation for Work Project Manager at BHT Sussex, said:
We are so delighted to be able to run this event again, to see so many staff and clients attend from homeless services, and to be supported by such a variety of work and learning providers in the city. We’ve had great feedback from attendees who are really pleased be meeting in person again. It was a really positive day!
Some of the feedback from attendees included:
“Absolutely fabulous. Great to meet people in person, rather than on zoom. I’ve set up meetings from today’s event.”
“Really good. Loved the choir, they made me cry! Great event.”
“Lovely, friendly, useful, everyone very approachable, 10/10.”
“These things should happen more often. The more the better!”
“Good having all the stalls in one place, I’ve got an appointment next week with the National Careers Service.”
“Well run and creatively presented.”
“Heart-warming to see so much available and good to make sure people are aware.”
